The Spanish government has approved new legislation making electronic invoicing mandatory for businesses and freelancers. This change, resulting from the Ley Crea y Crece, aims to modernize and digitize fiscal and administrative processes in the country.
The mandatory implementation of electronic invoicing in Spain is an important milestone in the administrative and fiscal modernization of the country. Companies of all sizes should prepare for this transition by adopting invoicing systems that meet the new legal and technical requirements, thus ensuring more efficient and secure operations.
The regulatory development of the law is about to be approved; however, to gradually adapt, organizations have a few months to find suitable software solutions and make the necessary changes to their internal processes:
- Companies with a turnover exceeding 8 million euros have 12 months to implement the standard from its publication;
- Companies with a turnover below 8 million euros and freelancers have an additional 12 months to implement electronic invoicing compared to the companies mentioned in the previous point (i.e., 24 months in total, with the new process needing to be compliant by 2026).
